STUDY MATERIALS
Though there is no best way to study for the SCRN Examination and each person has a different study method, the resources below are options for study materials. There are several study tools you can use to prepare for the exam and the list below is not intended to be comprehensive. For more suggested study materials, please view the SCRN Candidate Handbook. ABNN does not endorse any educational product or program.
AANN Comprehensive Review for Stroke Nursing The AANN Comprehensive Review for Stroke Nursing is a comprehensive study guide for nurses preparing for the SCRN exam and those looking for a review of current best practices for providing stroke care. This evidence-based book covers key topics listed on the SCRN exam blueprint, including anatomy and physiology, preventative care, hyperacute care, stroke diagnostics, acute care, medications, postacute care, and systems and quality care. The AANN Comprehensive Review for Stroke Nursing is available in print and e-book formats for purchase in the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses (AANN) online store.
AANN Core Curriculum for Neuroscience Nursing, Fifth EditionThe Core Curriculum is a great resource for SCRN preparation. The fifth edition includes more content than previous issues; new and updated research, approaches, figures, tables, and reference materials. It also includes a new chapter dedicated to therapeutic temperature management. The Core Curriculum for Neuroscience Nursing, fifth edition, is available for purchase in the AANN online store.
SCRN Self-Assessment Examination (second version coming soon!) The SCRN Self-Assessment Examination is used to assess whether or not a candidate is prepared for the SCRN examination. Take the self-assessment exam and consider it a pretest to better understand your current knowledge as it applies to certification and determine where additional studies are needed. Once you have purchased the exam, it is available for 30 days from the first time you access it. The assessment consists of 75 questions covering the content areas of the SCRN examination. The SCRN Self-Assessment Examination is available for purchase in the AANN online store.
Your performance on the practice examination will not guarantee results on the actual SCRN examination. The practice examination is not required to sit for the certification examination.
AANN Clinical Practice Guidelines The aim of the Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) series is to provide an overview on caring for a specific patient population and to equip nurses with a tool that will assist them in delivering the optimum quality-focused patient care.
AANN has published CPGs on topics such as neuro-oncology, movement and neuromuscular disorders, neurotrauma, and spine surgery. All CPGs are free for download on the AANN website.
